Our lives were quite a mess when God brought us together. Our backgrounds were completely different and upbringing was like night and day. Matt and I had both searched for fulfillment in the world and we found that it had none to offer, none that was lasting. It is always interesting how God works
in such crazy ways. I know they call it "mysterious" but to us, it's so amazing it seems crazy.
We are complete opposites. He loves the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and walking in the woods. I like movies, nights out, air conditioning and indoor plumbing. He doesn't mind messy and I can't function in messy. He believes "later"is the best way to handle questions like "Can you take out the trash?" And I believe "later" is a lot like liver and onions......bad, very
bad! Truth is, with all the opposite that goes on in our life, we actually work. Dysfunctional? Oh yes, we are totally dysfunctional but we have learned how to function in our dysfunctional life together.
We have walked through financial disaster, physical issues and complications, parenting, marriage, the in-law situations, failed business, unemployment, the combined family circumstances as well as successes, memories we will never
let go of, lots of laughter, and so much more.
What we have learned through all this is that we know nothing. Every time we think we know what we are doing we find out we obviously don't. We no longer have a plan, we have a vision and know that God has the plan. Of course, there is one thing we do know and that is that we want to serve God because of the gift He gave to us. The gift of freedom. Freedom from our sin, our guilt, freedom from what others think, freedom from our past, from all of it.
Matt and I wanted to share what we found in God. That desire sparked a dream to bring entertainment to Bolivar. To have an opportunity to love people and serve people. We dreamed of offering recovery programs that would help
people heal from their past. To create an opportunity to begin to live out their own dreams by having a place to use the talents and abilities God had given them. We had the building but we didn't have a clue how to pay for such a big undertaking. Then one day we were standing in the middle of the store asking that very question. How do we pay for all this? A reply came "Whatever we do, we need to make sure and have a table to offer coffee." From that one portion of that one conversation, the coffee house was born.
What has happened from that time to this day is truly because God has provided everything. Every idea, resource, supplier, employee, every dollar. We have watched as He has brought the most amazing and talented people to us and has once again used His crazy-mysterious-miraculous ways to do it.
We chalk it up to the fact that He has done it all in such a way we couldn't take credit even if we wanted to. What an awesome God we serve!
Our family will always be learning how to be better. We make mistakes everyday but we have hope in the fact that every new moment brings opportunity to make better choices and learn from the "not so great" ones. We are both amazed and honored that God chose us to birth The Bean 3:16. Our desire is that everyone who walks through our doors feels welcomed and loved by the time they leave. We believe the future holds more than we can ask, dream, or imagine and we are so grateful to just be a part of it.
Our story is simple. God asked......and who are we to say no?
May God bless your life.
